Thinking about the bleed over idea that Simon spoke about to add more play to the publication.
- Having the tip ins as a way to create interesting compositions when viewed with image behind.
- Like this bleed over, I makes turning pages more interesting and visually stimulating as it encourages more interaction between the audience and the publication.
- Thinking of more alterations, layering, pages interacting with each other.
- Not too sure on this idea, it makes the pages appear a little complicated and has become rather repetitive with the imagery, could do with removing some images.
- More refined pages, these work much better and have a nice visual balance within the publication.
This test of the publication is much more successful, it goes through the imagery is an more lively engaging way.
- Need to work on the last 2 spread further to think about the arrangement of these images.
To think about, how the orientation of the imagery impacts the experience.
This way around creates a more immersive experience as the audience sees their own hands in the same way as this:
This way creates some distance between the audience and the book as they're looking objectively at someone else's hands:
I think the more immersive orientation of the images in much more appropriate (changed this in a previous spread) as it makes you feel involved with the content, creates an affinity between the audience and the book which I think it important in an experimental publications.
Imagery
From home been printing out images then scanning them in and using these within the publication.
Went to uni to print and I need to rethink the processing of the images. The uni printers were already rather gritty so the printed, scanned, and printed again image was too distorted on these printers:

This might not be the case in digital print however, so need to make a copy that's with original imagery to print in the studio and then do a test print in digital print before sending off the final thing.
Plan:
- Book with original images to print in studio
- Test for digit print (with scans and original imagery)
- collect on monday see which is most successful - Make book with final imagery choice and send to digi print (mon)
Printed book so far:
- Feels like there should be something on the black piece of paper, could swap the arrangement around.
Some pages have too much white space when there's nothing on them.
Thinking of changes:
Changes:
- Much better with this arrangement, just tweak a couple of spreads that feel out of place (the ones with vertical arrangement) and then the image orientation needs considering.
The overall tone is much more playful now, the imagery going off the page helps to elevate the tone, but not too many adjustments so it still retains the sense of thought.
- Think the tipins work really well at creating different arrangements within the book, relating to this idea of temporary thought, having at the start and end though feels a little odd at the start and end of the sudoku are the most concrete choices, moving the tipin to the centre would make more sense.
The start of the publication contains smaller images feels more similar to small, quick moves and decisions. Then the further through the book the more visually detailed they get, showing ebbs and flows in the mind of decisions.
To do tomorrow:
1. Remake these in photoshop with high res scans
2. Make final book to print in uni (raw photos)
3. Scan in final book to make digi print book
4. Make digi print test and send off
5. Need to think about the front cover
