RESEARCH BRIEF (B7):
- Still struggling- Did some more research into sudoku and thought about using it more as a visual representation of information

- Does the topic need to be related to the content?
FEEDBACK:
- Don't read into simon's reaction, if you can make it work and make something out of it go for it. Simon just couldn't think of anything as he hasn't done the research.
- Content relate to topic?
- Not necessarily, should be obvious when the tutors look at the project as a whole, need to know that something has evolved from this 'theme' this research interest within Sudoku and how they've evolved into the outcomes.
- That's a matter of documentation and how I narrate that to the tutor.
- Is it better than it doesn't have a direct relation because then you're taking inspiration from something and relating it to something else.
- Could take an element (like sudoku grid) and use it to develop something very sudoku-esk, could then alter the visual, double up the grid, make something again until the outcome doesn't look like the sudoku grid. (Simon suggested typeface here). - Proof of worries about the project is in the pudding. Simon says to just try things, that's the beauty of the research brief, get to a point where you keep trying stuff out, might not hit a spark until you start working with visual material.
- There's never going to be a project where you don't get anything out of it, it's just a matter of being flexible and being creative. Just need to dive in. - Research Patrick Thomas - Instagram look up, does interesting stuff that lifts graphic imagery from different contexts and uses layering and type, short phrases to create interesting compositions.
- Might not be about producing a tangible communicative graphic design project but is a graphic response to stuff I've learnt about sudoku. - Just dive into project, the outcome could be a piece of graphic communication or these graphic experiments, and then build into something else like a publication or instagram.

A BOOK A DAY (B6):
- Started work on it yesterday, brief is to design a zine/publication each day for a week. The topic of the book will be based on what’s trending on twitter that day. - The project will allow myself to comment on pop-culture as well as display how faced paced interests have become commonplace in modern society. Interesting juxtaposition of a book (typically long production process) with the content of pop-culture (ever changing multiple times a week, even a day). - The project also serves as an experimental project for me, helping me push myself to come up with ideas quickly.Send link: https://e-n-crook1821-l6.blogspot.com/2021/02/b6-book-day-day-1.html
- Is the project working?
- What could I do to improve?
FEEDBACK:
- Documenting the trending topic in a publication cements it in time, but then when I look in the evening at what's trending, it's completely different to what was trending in the morning.
- Simon really liked this statement, and so do I, think this is a key aspect of the project and shouldn't be changes. It comments of pop-culture and the pace at which we move from topic to topic really well. - Likes the zine look of it as I'm focusing on the immediacy of the topic, not getting too bogged down with aesthetic judgements.
- But it feels like a document, it could be super methodical like an archive, with different codes that represent different themes that come out of the day. Last years masters student did something similar.
- Collected labels from post, some things were scanned, some things were photographs, sometime elements from the photographs were extracted (e.g. photo of pavement and patterns of chewing gum around these).
- I think this could be an exciting element to explore, could look into this over the weekend. - Could make an archive that encapsulates the content of the zines in a more structured way.
- Was looking at the stuff with notes and highlights as some of the spreads with the photos, centre spread, instead of snippits with the tweets could overprint the text over the top so they're thoroughly blended.
- Likes the project, should be open to how I'd develop throughout the project.
- Even though they're different publications they become more refined by the end because I've been able to think about what I'm doing each day. As this would look really good.
- Like the consistent front and back and size
- But open self up to progressing daily, don't go back to a previous day but use what you've learnt for the next days. - Learn that nothing's perfect, everything could be developed infinitely. Try different things out as it might get boring, experiment.
