Mention Human After All
Mention Kieron Lewis
Mention Pali Palavathanan
Mention Poonam Saini
Mention Koto
Mention Land of Plenty
CREATIVES:
Dropbox Design:
https://dropbox.design/resource/personal-voice-workbook
- Worksheet for finding my own voice, think this will be really helpful for my personal branding as I struggle with talking about myself and finding the things I want to say.
Dropbox Design have lots of really interesting and helpful resources for creatives, but also articles that are different to those on eye on design and itsnicethat. They look into the human behind the design.
Caitlin Clancy:

Miho Aishima:
https://www.aishima.co.uk/about
'By working with you to create a unique and beautiful brand, we aim to help you amplify your social impact by engaging the right people and addressing social issues.'
- branding, brand identity, strategy.
Zendesk Creative:

Human After All:
We’re a team of brand and communications experts.
Poonam Saini:
Director of KISS branding, based in Leeds (Keep It Simple Stupid).
Passionate about helping people with stuff that matters. Very much the sense that they're young and excited to design, get this from videos on their website, all about being 'fresh' and 'new'.
Don't appear to be as corporate focused.
Koto:
Any brand can look good. But in today’s crowded market only those that can make – and keep – a real connection with customers will truly thrive. This is what we deliver for the brands that we work with. We were founded on the belief that good design and powerful ideas can create a lasting emotional experience between a brand and its audiences. And we’re here to do just that.
We’re an optimistic group of designers, strategists and writers supported by a dedicated client services team. Proudly independent, we work at the intersection of brand and digital from our studios in Berlin, London and Los Angeles. Helping the world’s best brands become even better.
- Lots of big name clients again.
Land of Plenty:
Brand and design consultancy.
Review 1 (Miho)
- Likes the look of my portfolio, could do with more captioning. 'The stories you have are so interesting, maybe just zoom I a little bit as well.'
- Captions I completely agree with this, good to know that more information is something we can include on a portfolio, I've always been worried about overloading the page with text (still make sure this doesn't happen). - Screengrab of video and a link to the video so people can see how the AR works (or mock it up). Really likes the combination of the analogue with the digital and my thinking behind that, so want to see it.
- (Attendee - Jeremy) Presenting covers all on one page, they don't need to be very big but so you get the idea of how many there are and the sequence of them all.
- (Miho) thinks it's great that they've got different styles, could try stacking them, different ways to lie them up so you have different ways to visualise them.
- Documentation of archiving these books could be a good exploration on how to push the project further, time capsule from the past to the future? Nice the idea of bringing it all together.
- Create a gif of the pages and then demonstrate the book this way
- (Miho) likes the theme within the 2 projects of analogue and digital.
- Allowing the images that are further away to be larger so they have more room to be visible so you can see the details on the whole image.
- Then include more captions to demonstrate the ideas I have as each book is a different idea.
- In portfolio have 2/3s of the projects on your focus, want to advertise the direction you're wanting to go in.
Review 2 (Harrison)
- Could do with more captioning to explain the finer details, want to bring attention to those choices. Like why I chose those specific typefaces and the finer choices, especially because of the industry I'd like to go into. Those choices are really important.
- Can afford to make sections with the illustrations larger.
- Really like the hand drawn type, wants to know why I chose to draw it.
'When I read people's tweet they were ranging and really angry, it reminded me of protest boards, and the content fit with that, I could image people outside parliament yelling these words at Boris Johnson. Politics in personal, people get very opinionated and I wanted to produce something that conveyed that, I didn't want to use something that felt robotic or contrived, I wanted it to be personal.' Harrison commented that that answer was perfect, would be great if I could turn it into a one line or two lines for each zine. - Unless you get the opportunity to talk through your work you want it to speak on it's own, don't be afraid to stick something on there.
- Likes the way I layout the work, can see everything you want to see.
- Look up the White Review, book about poetry and literature.
- What professionals are looking for are the ideas and the small details and that you've put thought into them, professionals aren't looking for the most polished presentations with expensive mock ups
Review 3 (Theresa)
- Theresa was really keen to look through the book, even said that if I made more she'd like to purchase one.
- Would like more close ups, but really likes the presentation.
- Send the video in a package or upload to vimeo and attach a link, people want to see the AR but also close ups of some of the pages, help make the content more visible.
- A flat lay of all the components could be interesting.
- Really likes the idea of the project.
- More spreads of the pages would help understand the work more.
- I agree, common theme throughout the comments, since I have the images as scans it should be easy to develop gifs from these to then upload to the portfolio - Photos of the covers to showcase they're part of a collection, or do packaging look into packaging to encyclopedias, sort of box.
- Projects are really good, my voice over helps, should have a text version for when sending it off.
- This was such a helpful opportunity to get involved with, I really enjoyed the event, it was great to talk to and see other people's work from around the country and the different types of projects people are involved in or have come up with.
- Getting feedback from the professionals directly on my own projects was super helpful and all the professionals responded well to my work which was so lovely. It was a major confidence boost.
- Getting feedback on presenting a portfolio is really helpful especially from those in industry as they will be seeing portfolios frequently.
- Some of the advice has differed from advice I've been given previously so need to use my own judgement on some design aspects. - Taking part in this event has really encouraged me to reach out more, people are more likely to be impressed by you if you put yourself out there. Don't need to be shy with work, I can talk coherently about my projects, just need to refine the dialogue to have better execution.
