603 12/11/2020 Crit Notes

 BOOK A DAY:

  • Slow journalism contradicts the project slightly.
  • Can make a commentary on how things are moving quickly online simply by regurgitating it in book form. - This could be more of the focus.
  • When people interact with this literature it will be at that time but also considerably later than that time, so looking at it as past events even though it was documented in the way it was emerging at the time. - The process of engaging with the content already thinking about how things have changed over time, things being found out to be false etc.
  • Like the idea of permanently recording what was popular that day as it does fly by so quick.
  • Could come up with criteria/method of extracting information so that I'm not becoming the editor of what's appropriate to include. Could use top trend as topic and top 10-20 posts as content. Then leave reader to interpret it, what relevance it has etc.
  • Using fast production methods was received well. This seems appropriate. Having a layout and framework to drop information into.
  • How will the format be? Will they look like coherent books that work as a series or be individual artifacts in their own right.
  • Should be working through different format ideas etc and other problems during the research phase before production.
  • Need to get the groundwork done before semester 2.

REBRANDING HENRY MOORE INSTITUTE:

  • The institute is just an exhibition space.
  • Feel the HMI has an existing demographic, don't want to lose this so creating a spin off organisation that appeals to younger people could be an idea.
  • Simon mentioned the HMI isn't appealing, they often stay within a realm of traditional art.
  • Could develop an offshoot of HMI where there is a space for younger people to get involved in art-based activities. Student age. Talks, workshops etc. Then create a subrand around this, retain HMI stuff but the focus is on HMI present 'xxx' so then it isn't just exhibitions.
  • Could involve the logo of HMI but develop new branding, people know what HMI is so could be a way of shocking people as to 'oh wow this is henry moore?!'. Use this as a way of developing interest and excitement.
Extra Points:
- Simon commented that we can work over christmas, if any projects don't involve physical production because there is nothing on after cop submission before January.
