603 Study Task 5: CALM

Brief: Celebrate the power of friendship with the hashtag datewithamate.
Develop 3 instagram story slides promoting a virtual datewithamate.

Initial Ideas:

COLOURS: 

-blue

-yellow

- Like on their own branding but maybe making them more pastel to be perceived as more calming, less invasive or aggressive. 

Thinking of different ways to connect virtually that doesn't focus too heavily on conversation so there is less pressure on those involved. Got three different ideas to run with:

• Dinner date with a mate

• Game date with a mate

• Study date with a mate

VISUAL REFERENCES:

From CALM, felt the tone was less aggressive in this, with a nice sketchy illustration style. 

Liked the idea of imagery sending something directly to someone through a screen. 

A sketchy, loose style of illustration that could convey the feeling of calm. The aesthetic also then has plenty of room to be animated. 

DEVELOPMENT OF IDEAS: 

- Wanting to show connection through screen, not just laptops but phones as well.

- The idea of the visual being if you removed the screen it would be as though they're really with each other.

Final thoughts about the project: 

Three kinds of mate-date; Game Date with a Mate, Dinner Date with a Mate, and Study Date with a Mate are the ideas we want to show for the #DATEWITHAMATE brief by CALM. We wanted to convey the idea of keeping connection, even in a time when virtual connection is the main way of socialising.

We felt that a simple, playful illustrative style and a softer version of CALM’s colour scheme (blue and yellow), were a good combination to promote the potential positivity of virtual meet-ups. 

Our three choices look at three casual activities often partaken in by mates, virtual gaming has been a thing for years, and now it is a prime way to keep connected, having dinner can bring a sense of normality back to life, and studying gives you a friend to procrastinate with.

I think I'd like to refine these and take the idea a little further on my own, developing the brief and visual style.

In particular want to work with some of the comments made by tutors, thinking of using the instagram features to it's advantage, animation, polls, engagement etc. As well as looking at how the images flow.
