(B7) Research Brief: Test Print Results

Got test prints back from digital print.

the 120gsm is a little too thick, you can't see the layers as much as the 90gsm which thinner and slightly more translucent so communicates the theme palimpsest.

The difference between scanned and raw photos is slight, the scanned images are darker and are worse quality in some of them.
- Large scanned images look better
- Smaller images there is little difference
- lighter images appear darker when scanned and printed.

Should use a combination of images (ones most appropriate) and edit to lighten some of them for final print. Final print on 90gsm Olin.

Name: Even though the book isn't printed with a title I feel it should have one.

  • Number Place - Original name
  • Candidate - Term for the potential value of a cell
  • Hidden Pair - The term for when two candidates that appear only in two cells in a row, column or block. Other candidates in those two cells can be eliminated.
I like the name 'number place' but I think it seems too literal as this publication has take a more conceptual route with presenting the content. 'Candidate' has a nice connection to it, and as the book showcases a person's hands it could be deemed that they are the candidate, has a nice duality to it. - Go with this for the name.
