To be thinking of when writing the brief:
- Needs to suit a range of ages, the trail may be a fun activity for children to do but adults need to be interested too so they can get involved. Should try and appeal to a wide range of people (all genders and ages) who are wanting to be involved in the community.
- Should be mindful of existing branding, needs to work with the brand but still stand out as something exciting and new.
- Should avoid looking too festive (as it's happening in the new want to avoid connotations of christmas otherwise people might think it is over).
Colour Palette:
Mind Mapping Ideas:
Initial Ideas of shapes:
- Wavy shapes, could create scenes like woods, forests, parks etc.
- Would need to think about the colour scheme and how it can be used to create an understanding since the colours wouldn't be accurate.
- Looks a little too much like ice-cream, would need to clarify the shapes more.
- Simple blob shapes, could add patterns over the top in textures.
- The smooth nature of the images elevates the shapes more.
- Cutting out shapes like leaves, less smooth more organic shapes.
- Not the best choice to go with, looks messy, not polished enough.
- Can't think about how this could be translated across all elements.
- Circular designs, very retro, more 70s.
- How else could these be used? Would it make sense within all elements?
- Does this design relate to the project or create interest, it doesn't seem intriguing or engaging.
APPLYING AND DEVELOPING IDEAS
- Using shapes as background for the text, this would work well if there was something happening in the white space, looks too rigid for the shapes that are there.
- Wiggle type for the title works well with these shapes, has a more playful feel. Should aim to carry this forward throughout the project.
- I had been seeing a rise in using blurred colour as background for design recently (see image A below), felt since I hadn't had much direction from the client I could try using the colour palette as a source for inspiration.
- I like the style of the design but not sure it is appropriate for this project, it feels limiting and doesn't have as much intrigue.

- Felt the flowers have potential, using them alone on the page.
- Again wavy type works well as presenting a more playful experience, less serious.
- The flowers feel too feminine for the project, think along the lines of woodland and trails more than individual elements.
- Flowers simplified into shapes, these present a much less gendered aesthetic to the project, making it more engaging for a wider audience.

| Image B |
- Seeing how this could work as headers for email call outs.
- Feels like a one trick pony at the moment, would need to figure out new ways of presenting this imagery that may be more interesting and relate to the project.

| Image C |
- Woodland idea, small illustrations of trees and flowers, these motifs could be used throughout the branding on all elements.
- Need to look into this more as it has potential.
REFLECTING:
What's working?
- Spiky shapes on image B are working well, feels like these could be pushed forward to develop a more visually engaging outcome.
- Really like the fact it's difficult for design incorporating these visuals to be tied to a specific age or gender, feels more neutral. - Image C also could do with more development, the whimsical aesthetic could work really well for this project but it needs developing further.
- Text on a curve or a wave is working well, this can be applied more when developing other areas of the project.
What's not working?
- The blurring has no weight to it, is falling flat.
- Abstract organic shapes are also falling flat, they don't communicate anything specific and feel like a place filler for something else.
What to do next?
- Work on the spiky shapes and woodland idea further.
- Need to see what visuals come of this and how these could be applied to all elements of the brief.
