(B4) The Guardian: Crit Feedback and Developments

Crit:

Was just me and Gabi
  • Spoke about briefs, was good to see someone else's reaction to the work
  • Gabi liked the illustrations and felt it made the campaign feel less intimidating, and daunting for the audience,
  • Suggested about sponsored Instagram posts as a way to advertise
    - I think this is a good idea as many of the survey responses spoke about getting information from social media.
  • Spoke through PPP, struggles and  thoughts on that.
Was a quick crit but was really good to talk to someone new and see how they're getting on.
Makes it easier to motivate yourself when you talk to more people.

Developments

Working on visuals, feel the light and dark(er) topics are a good way to demonstrate a breadth of articles (something students wanted).
- Need to find ways to incorporate other text.
Experiment with presenting findings to the audience in an engaging way (call peg?)

> Thinking about the tone of the work, wanting to make it more youthful and fun aesthetic, tried this with addin in more scribbles to text, changing type to sans serif.
> Added colour to the illustrations, wanting to make them more exciting, don't know if it adds much.
> All feels rather digital, not getting much interest and excitement from the visuals.

Thought about going in a more photography based direction:

Using blank spaces or the logo to censor.
- Feels too similar to previous campaign with the blanked out shaped.
Wanted to try and display the idea of editing, being able to choose what you see. But I don't think this communicates it well, the censorship idea is what's communicated more than the idea of choice.

Like the idea of editing, things being interchangeable
- should focus on this more, how could it be achieved?

Experimenting with video, using animation to present the different types of articles shown on the guardian, what these are and how they could be of interest.
Feel something like this could be interesting for instagram, bright vibrant colours could be really eye catching.
Needs more imagery or graphics to accompany it.
- Could this be imagery of the topics, black and white, halftone?

Tested with black and white, looks a lot more traditional like a newspaper wasn't very eye catching.
Thinking this could be changed with the addition of colour imagery, would need to make change to text so it stays visible.

Here with colour images, seems rather overwhelming.
Difficult to read text with colour image, even with white background.
Feel like there is too much colour change within the images, also some of the text is difficult to read over the imagery.
- Could try gradient map to make a more consistent colour palette?

More successful seems like a newspaper but is still visually interesting.
Presents the wealth of topics well.
What could be pushed in it, where could it go next?
Should present the app and reasons for purchasing it afterwards, need more information.
- Want to talk to peers throughout the project since they're the target audience.
