Crit with peer group, only me and Ryan attended.
- Was really helpful to talk to someone about my brief, especially as I've been struggling with it.
Feedback on B3:
- Need to focus on the outcome more, will give structure to the project.
- Nothing's got to look good at this stage.
- Would be a good idea to set rules, would make the design choice process faster:
- Colours
- Symbols, could develop a key
- Different typefaces - Should move away from a white background as it makes things look rushed and not thought through (could do a light grey or beige if wanting a neutral background).
- Idea of a website was the one he thought would be the most effective
- I completely agree, feel it is a new way to experience poetry that works well with the brief, would allow for interesting animations and reduces a lot of limitations that are set in print. - Felt the animation where the type appeared as it was being read was good, more could be done with this idea combining it with the website outcome.
- Advice about using type, think about type as a box, can arrange boxes to develop layout without pressure of design choices.
- If wanting the text to feel like speech space is important, like the squares where the different sections were placed on different squares, this helps with the pace.
- For website:
- Scrolling to have text appear could be interesting, would be able to direct paace from this.
- Big type on the website as this is the focus.
- Horizontal scrolling could be interesting
- Look into pallax scrolling.
Reflections:
Ryan's advice and feedback was really helpful, it was great to talk to someone about the brief and get an outsider's perspective.
Realised I need to drop any ideas of what I want the outcome to look like and just go for it with the experimentation, can always bring things back if they've gone too far.
