- Branding at the centre of work
- All design elements feed back to this. - Career path isn't linear.
- "Success is the ability to move from failure to failure without diminishing enthusiasm"
- Don't get too comfortable being told what to do (this doesn't happen in the real world)
- Portfolios are like instagram, they're highlight reels
- Don't feel as though your design isn't good enough when you see someone else's portfolio. - It's important to move around and test places out at the start of your career.
- Go and explore
- Will help you meet people and expand your network. - Broadening your idea of success is really good, helps reduce burnout.
- Failure isn't the end, it's not terminal. This is when you'll learn the most.
- Be curious, can't fix problems you're no aware of.
- Be humble, it's okay not to know.
- Trust the process
- Make room for self initialed briefs, but remember they are a privilege.
- For Advertising work go ot:
- Instagram
- Website
(Good work will get noticed) - Portfolio:
- Retailer the portfolio depending on the job, don't change who you are but showcase what's appropriate. - Speculative emails are important for planting seeds
- London as a place to work is becoming less important. Other cities like Leeds, Manchester, Bristol and Glasgow are moving up.
- Mentioned looking for work on design job boards like 'if you could'? (look into these)
- Important for you to know what you do so others can see if you fit in or not.
