603: Briefs (Rethink)

Needing to go over and rethink briefs, issues with covid making some more difficult to do and so need to figure out timeline and make sure briefs are ambitious but achievable in the current climate.

KEY:
Green = Done
Orange = To do
Red = Not doing
* = more research into brief needed
( ) = potential brief if needed

B1 - Out of Context
Mostly completed but needs refining post feedback.

B2 - Sticker Trail
Completed, need to do blogs and reflection.

B3 - One Book a Day
Still doable but would need to delay start to when I have access to photocopier/printer

B4 - Social Media Collab w/ Peggy
Still able to do and in allocated time (Feb 1-26)

B5 - HMI Rebrand
No longer need to do, already have 2 branding projects in briefs (could keep as back-up)

B6 - Ode to Home*
Possibly, need to figure out the project more timeframe is still achievable would just need to prepare for alternate idea.

B7 - Putting Things in Order*
Doable, could bump up the timeline as it is an independent project so can do in lockdown.

B8 - YCN*
Looking at them, the Patch brief could be interesting. Need to read up on this more.

B9 - Gender Data Gap*
Idea for research brief, not sure what to do with it.
Should rethink this over the next week.

(B10 - Creative North)
Would be more brand/campaign stuff, could do but not sure it's needed.

(B11 - Fringe Book)
Have as backup for if we get access to facilities. Project is very practical heavy so might not be doable.

Needing briefs that can do at home or with few facilities due to lockdown.

New ideas:

1. Concrete Poetry
Previous idea of exploring concrete poetry could be a good way to get back into creating. Could work on a different design each day, making the project easy to complete alongside other projects.
- Thinking along the lines of concrete confinement (publication I bought during lockdown).

2. Everyday's the Same
Wanting to explore the idea that everyday is the same. People have been saying this a lot recently, how all the days are becoming one.

Wanting to challenge myself with more ways of creating physically so the days seem different. I had the thought of taking a photo each day and collaging over the top a scene that would make that day stand out.

  • Would want to use it as a method of creating interesting events for myself despite there being non that are actually happening.

What would the goal be?

  • To create new scenarios for my daily life as a way of encouraging creativity.
  • Could become a workbook for others to help in times of struggle.

Would like it to encourage simple creativity, there being no right or wrong way to produce the work, just the way you would want to.

3. Unblock my Brain
Idea for a creative zine that works as a personal diary. Main problem I can't get past is the fear of making and worrying about what I make.

  • Want to do a project that focuses around this.
  • The 'everyday's the same' idea could come into this and I feel this is part of the problem. Should be setting myself small creative tasks each day and understanding what I've learnt.

It feels right to do a passion project right now and that's what I'm needing. Can be a short 2 week brief to get myself out of a creative pit.

    RESEARCH:

    OOMK

    Really like the attitude of the women designing these zines, the project came about as a way of being creative with likeminded people.
    Feel the zines themselves expand on this creativity while providing a focus.

    Revised Timeline:

    What to do next?

    • Research into briefs with * and develop stronger brief.
    • Finalise the 2 green briefs, just need to tie up loose ends and reflect
    • Revisit timeline and think about what briefs can be done when.
