602 - Task 1: Completing

Present this in a PDF

1 - Studio/Practitioner A
2 - Studio/Practitioner B
3 - About text
4 - Visual language

PART ONE

PRACTITIONER A: Joe Gilmore (https://qubik.com/)

  • First thing I noticed is the work stands out on the page, the text is very small at the top and doesn't distract.
  • You see an image as a whole first, then when your mouse hovers over it you get the text, this way you can see the design and appearance without any interruption.
  • The visual identity is pretty minimal but the large images make for a more striking appearance.
  • The website works in a smooth ergonomic way which is very easy to navigate.
  • The website feels like itself and the work have had similar approaches to the way they've been made, suggests a strong identity but not sure what this is due to it simplicity.
  • When displaying a specific project most of the content is imagery of the design/outcome, there is a final section of text that talks about the work but it is discussing it as a final piece, there's nothing about development usually.

  • The tone of voice in the about section is very much about the work.
  • I talks about Joe in 3rd person, and mentions the type of practices he does, where he works and mentioned client briefs as well as self directed ones.
  • There is little personality in the about page, most of the text is about exhibited work or clients.

PRACTITIONER B: Kristine Kawakubo (https://kristinekawakubo.com/)

  • The work is the most prominent thing on the website, however there is a sense of order as there is a list of works along the side of the page making it easy to navigate.
  • The images are smaller here than on Joe Gilmores site, this lets you see more of the work in a short space of time.
  • The way the website works is easy to understand and navigate, the first thing i noticed was the lack of colour, it is a very monochrome site. In some ways this high contrast visual is captivating but it means little stands out.
  • When you click on a piece of work there's a wealth of images showing all angles of the project. There is, however, little writing about the work.

  • Finding the about section was more difficult as it's called 'know KHK more' and odd name for this type of page.
  • The button to click this is also at the bottom of the page rather than the top. This suggests the word takes president and speaks for itself.
  • The tone of voice in the 'about' section is in 3rd person much like Joe Gilmores but has more adjectives, it paints a picture about Kawakubo's practice and intentions as a designer. You feel like you get to know more about her as a creative.

PART TWO

My tone of voice, what impression do I want to give off?

What am I about/interested in as a creative?

Consider tone of voice, layout, language, impression, feel.

- How do you want to present this to consolidate your practice.
Then develop a succined 'About' copy text

Name: @evc.design

About: Hello! I'm Evie, a creative designer based in Leeds with a passion for designing audience focused work. The key aspects of my practice stem from an interest in psychology, I'm always wanting to learn and understand the 'why' behind design. This inquisitive approach of questioning work, pulling it apart and piecing back together again leads to concept focused projects with dynamic outcomes.
