Communication is key, and so is organisation.
- I found through working on live projects I've learnt so much about communication and how good communication comes from good organisation. When working on the artbook for Wooga developing systems or organising files, and time between 3 different parties was challenging but I was able to devise systems for working that are effective for myself and help me keep on top of things.
- Using the different Google tools so the work and scheduling can be updated in real-time was a great way to work around remote collaboration.
Concepts are the foundation of my practice
- Throughout 602 and 603 I've been developing my practice, while developing projects I've found a way of working through challenges with different design choices and approaches. I found that my strengths lie in idea general and abstract thinking, the first stage of designing is where I can apply wider research to my practice.
- I've always loved learning and exploring new ways of thinking, hearing perspectives from other people, designers, peers, etc. is how I further my projects and expand on concepts. Keeping learning is key to my progress into my professional career.
- As my work stems from a concept the appearance of my work varies from project to project, I believe this is a strength of mine. I'm able to apply theory from research as well as my creative skillset to a brief, pulling it apart and piecing back together again in order to develop an outcome that is most appropriate to that brief.
- My personal brand allows my work to speak for itself, by being minimal and not overpowering anyone wanting to understand me as a practitioner can do so through my Instagram and website.
- Throughout 602 I've been engaging with the publication side of design more by attending talks by book designers, accessing online virtual artbook fairs, researching residency opportunities are reaching out to practicing bookmakers. It was encouraging to see and speak to so many active practitioners about the medium as it has been something I've found rather mysterious at points.
- By engaging with other designers, and having creative discussions outside of university has inspired me to keep developing my network and community within bookmaking. I hope to carry this forward with Nod a collective focused on collaborative publication projects.
