“Movements” for Patcharavipa Spring/Summer 2018. It examines themes of presentation, representation and the space between conception and perception. A key component is the photography by Senta Simond which takes a subjective view of the 3 performances. The material from the campaign is presented primarily in a printed catalogue. Stills from video recordings are placed in a defined structure, serving as a foundation. Full colour plates are hand-tipped and inserted throughout the content. Each book, measuring 18 × 11 × 2cm, is individually wrapped in Japanese watashi paper by Bookworks, London.
I love this work, it showcases the combination of elements and different performances really well within the form of the book. The difference in paper helps the different pieces stand out but the photography ties them all together.
- Think about this when working on own book, what are the contents and what changes? Does the image in the "base" of the book need to be manipulated or change the additions be where this shines?
- Need to focus more on the production, don't let this become something left at the end.
- What paper stock? Why? What am I communicating? A sense of human, don't want the book to become a precious artifact that stays pristine. Should have an inviting softness to it.
