Presented my ideas for the research brief, ones I'm most interested in are Sudoku and stamps.
Crit Feedback:
- Rosie liked the stamp idea still liked the Sudoku idea. Stamps would exist with illustration style, sudoku would be more grids etc.
- Bradley spoke about how there is a lot of stamp art out there at the moment but not as much on Sudoku so would prefer Sudoku, would be more interesting.
- Peggy mentioned how Sudoku feels more relevant with the Queen's Gambit reference, could be more current.
- Gabi also spoke about the Sudoku one to go with as I don't know what the outcome would be.
- Feels like stamps could be used in elsewhere in a brief. - Simon mentioned how I need to be able to give something to the topic, doesn't have any comments on how to make something from it.
- Rosie suggested making typefaces out of the Sudoku grid, or various elements.
- (Simon) It feels weird that it has a competitive aspect to it, Peggy agrees.
- (Simon) Stamps, personally thinks they're boring but there are new ways that we're experiencing things like stamps, amazon and post office give you a form of QR code that go along with sending parcels in the digital world.
- Made me think about Iceland who aren't making stamps anymore since they're going digital. - Can this project deviate to those ways of tracking postage using QR codes and look at that. Then it can be more graphic, not just illustrations, iconography, graphic marks not revert to
- Bring tradition of a stamp to current ways of postage, "QR" codes etc.
My Thoughts:
- It was interesting to hear what people had to say about the topics, many said sudoku would be the better one to go with but then when it came to discussion there were more design prospects for looking into stamps.
- It was helpful in one way but then not in another, I need to think now about which to go with. Shall I pick one or shall I go into both and then choose when I've got a clearer picture?
- Doing more research over the weekend and choosing by monday would be the best way to go.
