(B1) Out of Context: Further Experimentation (Colour) and Finalising Elements

Thinking about the use of colour now with large sections of blue being incorporated into the design.
- Could the imagery be altered to incorporate more blue?

^ Changed the image to be halftone and with blue and main colour.
- How does it look on the posters?

So individual posters would look more like this:

Feel this has more of an impact on the audience, is more eye catching than black and white imagery.
- Good inbetween of black and white shapes with full blue background behind text without needing the full blue background.
- The images are still ambiguous but relate to the text and other elements better now.
Should the images everywhere use this blue colour or are they okay being black and white?
- Think about the fact there should be one or the other in each element and then decide which is the most appropriate for which.

Finalised joined posters:
All together

Individually
Finalised Individual Posters:
All together

Individually

These posters work well on their own but also as part of a collection.
- When pasting these up in public the interesting orientation could be useful in pushing forward the idea that the event is taking place physically (well not sure about that now due to lockdown 3.0, but it was the original plan).
For posters being placed next to each other do they need to be in the right order? Feel is they're mixed up it pushed the ambiguous notion forward (test this).

Mix A

Mix B

^ Different ways of arranging the posters, these also work but present more of a puzzle piece image than when they fit together correctly.

Catalogue:

Testing with blue images in the book.
With blue images

with bw images

Think as the catalogue is already having blue breaks in the publication it would be better to have the black and white images.
- Would become too overbearing if both images and break pages were vibrant blue.
- Blue is still incorporated into the page on the text so it doesn't look disconnected.

Test 1 - Blue pages for quotes, view on issuu:

Test 2 - Blue text for quotes, view on issuu:

I prefer the blue background for quotes, but feel the images are too jumpy, there is little consistency across the pages so it's a lot to take in.
- Could have a consistent placement of images option of 2 different ones so there is some familiarity across the pages.

Test 3 - Blue text for quotes, organised images, view on issuu:

Still feel the images could be organised better, going to have a consistent placement of images, one design only.

Test 4 - Single image presentation, blue text for quotes, view on issuu:

Like this layout but think the blue pages will work better to break up the pages and add in something new.

Test 5 - Single image presentation, blue page for quotes, view on issuu:

This is the best so far, all elements are connecting to each other. Visually engaging but not confusing.

Revisiting Flyers:
Adding in new blue images to develop 2 types of flyer.

Number 1:
Back

Front

Number 2:
Front

Back

I find number 2 to be the most successful, the image has the same impact as the fully blue background and allows the text to relate to the poster.

Labelling:

Need to be considering the labelling of the work, how could this incorporate the branding?
- Does it depend on the way the work is laid out on the exhibition?

Initial Ideas:
> Clip onto work somehow then arrangement isn't a large problem.
- Could do this with blue paper clips to work that's able to have this.
> Stands placed in front of work
> Plaques attached to the walls for mounted work.

Feels like there needs to be a combination of these as work will be displayed in different ways.
- Develop a keynote to put next to each piece of work whether they be placed in the form of a stand or stuck flat next to work.

Text to include:
1. Number of work (related to catalogue)
2. Students name
3. Title of essay
- Could use the text from catalogue as a starting point (keeping this visually consistent)

Text from catalogue straight onto keynote:

Needs adjustments to fix the hierarchy and bring attention to the key areas better.

Alterations:
- Number is highlighted and more noticeable than before.
- Spaced the text out so it doesn't become too crapped and give space for the individual elements to be noticed as different.
- Leaves room for those who might have a larger title so text doesn't become squished.

- Works for a range of different titles, names and topics.

Email Invite:

Thinking of doing the same as previously with the typing out text but using the new poster design instead (with blue image).

^ The image for the invite, just need to make other frames and animate.

^ Animated invite.

Instagram:

Revisiting the designs and changing a couple of things.
- Images to blue
- Adding more information to fully blue squares

Old

New

New informative posts

- The format of these posts allows images to be shared that have all the information on but others that engage the audience through the UX instagram provides and feel more involved.
- Will be posting pictures of posters in real life on the instagram but need access to printer before this can be done.

All elements finalised, need to develop pitch presentation now (can adapt previous pitch to updated branding)
