603 Putting Things In Order Research

Putting Things In Order

BRIEF: To look into the lesser known methods and obscure ways people have put things in order, the

specific ‘thing’ in question is undecided but more time considering the brief will lead to an

individual avenue that can later be explored.

Guylaine Couture

- Stones, I've been collecting rocks for years, I made a book.

ANALYSIS:
    • I particularly like the simplicity of this publication, the reason for making the book was just to document a stone collection.
    • I'm intrigued into how the order was chosen, also why the larger images are what they are.
Thinking about this project in terms of the brief, it proposes the question of what are the different ways to organise things?
      How could you order stones?
      - Size
      - Weight
      - Which you like the most
      - Colour
      - Smoothness
      - Roundness
      - Location of where you found it
    • The possibilities are endless. I think people could jump to really obvious ways of organising/ordering objects but this doesn't need to be the case. I think this would be really important to remember during the project.
      - Think back to Stefan Sagmeister talk and the techniques for developing ideas, 1. find an object and exhaust if for ideas, 2. mind map all the possibilities surrounding a topic, and 3. go for a walk.
    • The production of the publication is really simple, it doesn't interfere with content, it is simply a way of presenting the information it doesn't display an opinion of any kind to the audience.
      - Remember the different production methods and how they impact the audience's experience, how do you want them to interact and interpret the work, then what is the best way to achieve this?
