603 Study Task 2: Question Task

Beginning of Nov end of Oct more investigation into briefs takes place.
Answer these questions, think about answers in relation to practice, research and skillset within design:

1. When considering your design practice what have you learnt in the last 7 days?

- Learnt about the psychological impacts of physical design on learning and retaining information. How interacting with a book, holding it yourself is beneficial for your memory as you're able to go at your own pace, you have access to all the content at once compared to a screen.

2. What practical skills do you envy in others?

- When people are able to come up with ideas and generate them into a piece of design quickly, this is something I want to get better at. Also lino printing, I'd love to be able to illustrate and make beautiful lino prints.

3. What do you admire most about yourself?

- I enjoy the perspective I look at things from, I ask why and have an investigative approach to design challenges.

4. Do you think social media affects your mental health?

- Yes, I've recently put a time limit on my phone for a number of apps, so I can't access them at certain times of the day and for certain amounts of time. I was getting into unhealthy habits with social media. However, these limits don't include apps that allow me to contact family.

Instagram has been a way of finding new designers and design opportunities that I didn't know were happening otherwise, this is a big positive of social media as it can make you feel engaged with the design world, especially now.

5. Do you use humour to improve your design practice?

- I tend not to, I struggle with humour as I don't think I'm particularly funny.

6. Is there anything you do differently to most people in relation to your design practice?

- I think I take a roundabout route to design tasks whether that be positive or negative I'm not sure, I tend to relate really unrelated topics together, sometimes it makes sense, other times not so much.

7. What makes you laugh?

- Kids asking blunt questions, hurtful but funny. Witty humour.

8. What's your biggest strength?

- My perseverance, I feel I'm good at working through problems.

9. Would you consider yourself introverted or extroverted when presenting?

- A combination, I feel fine talking in class but I get extremely nervous when I have to present.

10. What is your worst habit when evaluating your work formatively?

- I use very informal language, I need to develop a more professional way of articulating what I'm thinking.

11. What is the biggest waste of time in your day?

- Washing my dishes.

12. What brief are you looking forward to?

- Looking forward to collaborative briefs, apprehensive because don't know how well it'll work with covid but excited to talk to others about design projects.

13 What do you often complain about when researching?

- How much reading it is, I read so slowly it takes me ages to get through an article or essay etc.

14. What new design process do you want to learn?

- Concrete poetry and more type based stuff.

15. What is the biggest design challenge you've had to overcome in the last two years in your design practice?

- Having to have confidence in my design choices and ideas.
